The Beginning of Something New by charcoalfeather The Beginning of Something New by charcoalfeather
That late March afternoon, Yura sat in what the florist called the "guest room," a stuffy, normally gloomy room that was oversweet with the scent of various flowers. Outside, the dim sun of late winter shone through the lacey curtains, reminding him of the coming season. A spray of sparrows whipped by the window as flowers bloomed in front of the window, their quick chrips strangely calming to him.

He closed his eyes. Was it spring already? There was still snow outside, but he could already sense that all the birds, and not just the sparrows, were coming back. They would make dry, vivid sounds before they vanished again, as they always did.

First page of Return to the City, the miniseries I said I was going to be working on since last year but haven't touched for more than half a year, it seems!
  • Pose referenced, non-commercial use: Milky smoke
  • Media: pencil and watercolour, as usual.
  • Yes, this is, in essence, a more detailed redraw of this old sketch I made: Just a quick one
Next Page:
Cover page: Returning to the City

As usual, all characters and themes mentioned here are by me. Return to the City is a miniseries springing from the themes and story threads from my main series (finished) Basmachi.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it. The background was amazing to draw--and yes, I agree with you that backgrounds are important and makes you sucked into the actual setting/story.

I don't know--I mean, does publishing mean selling the work for money? I think I could print it out and just mail it to people who are interested, but not on a huge scale like on Amazon or something . Well, hm, it depends on how many things I can think about it. I can still think many things about the universe, so for now, it will be ever-expanding.

Thanks for your questions!

Haha, you're one of those people who uses the computer until they're nearly dead battery-wise? I always keep mine at least above 50% or directly connected to the energy source xD I'm paranoid about the computer going to 1% sometimes.

Interesting choice to do it backwards! I wonder how that influences the way you will see things.

Yep, it is very breezy! And perhaps cute :D

Thanks!

I'm not always next to the charger lol. When it takes getting out of bed to charge, I'll just consider my computer time limited.
(I heard somewhere that always charging the computer when you're using it isn't good for it, though … :O )

Not really a choice lol. Just depends on whether I do get time to read and comment on stuff before you've done your miniseries. xD

Good to hear! :dummy:

That's true xD ah well, it's a habit developed out of anxiety, especially during university, when not every room has chargers and usually at the library, all the desks with working chargers have already been hogged. So I'm always plugged in when I do find a charger. It's different when I'm at home though (at least usually).

Thank you so much! Indeed it's an interesting effect. And contributes to the general lighthearted feel of the piece/miniseries.

Haha, now the old lady/florist will come in and scold him!

Yes it will be! I don't think it will be 40 something pages though lmao, that's probably the length of Blue Star rather than this miniseries.

Thanks for your interest and support!

Good luck on everything! You're looking for something specifically related to graphic design and the intensive course you did recently, right?

Well, even if it was, we won't hold that against him. How much harm can a little bottle of beer do? :giggle: Hah you can't wait to see - Yura must be very unpredictable then :D

Will he be drunk in any scene? (that could open some possibilities, since it could be used either in a funny or in a serious scene, and either way it would help bring his subconscious to the surface and thus bring something new to the character?)
