Yura by charcoalfeather Yura by charcoalfeather
The coloured version of: The Garden

^in that picture, which was a photo of the original drawing, the angle made it seem like his head was too big...which was problematic. Fortunately, his head looks more normal here.

Happy New Year, guys! This is one fo the drawings I did today to push myself to the limit. I wanted to do some more detailed watercolour pictures before 2015 ended, lol. This (and the next picture of Mitya) was one of the results.

Yuriy here, once again, is rather pensive and worried looking, as usual. Perhaps he is wondering what is in store for him after Mitya's death. After all, he needs to eventually get over his death and move on, doesn't he?

Who is this? Yuriy is from my original series, Basmachi, which can be seen/read in my gallery.

Media: Watercolour and pencil on Moleskine.

Well he's actually smiling a bit. Seems like he's got a "bravely facing the uncertain future" sorta expression! :D

Haha, no worries, I guess I spammed you first! =P I went though all your art in my inbox - now I can get back to catching up on Basmachi though knowing you you'll probably upload MOAR ART soon! :D

Maybe I should space things out more xD but I already have stuff from a few weeks ago I haven't yet uploaded...so...uh yeah, I somehow produce too much in a short amount of time.

Naaaah, don't space things out! I only got stuff stacking up in my inbox because of the time when I wasn't really active, and now I'm pretty much ready for more! :la: I notice I've been steadily uploading 3-4 things per month for a while, compared to like 6-10 uploads back when I was in the uni. I can't say I draw LESS or much slower these days so I wonder if I put more time in each picture now. Or just keep putting things in sketchdumps. :P

Thanks so much! Happy new year to you too! This was fun to do. I mix red and yellow with water until I come up with the perfect skin tone xD

You're welcome, and thank you! :D Ohooo... I see, I should keep this in mind because I'm thinking about challenging myself to a watercolor painting this year. Looking at Ktoya and your watercolor work made me want to do one. ^^ LOL, I haven't used watercolor since college, so I even forgot if watercolor paint tube sets come with an actual flesh tone color or if it requires to mix different colors to make one. X'D

I don't think I've seen anything traditional from you yet, so that shall be fun to see!

Yeah, I haven't touched traditional media since college so I'm really nervous to do this, but it'll be good to step up to challenge. ^^

Yeah, me too! Before I even try painting the actual thing, I might have to blotch down some paint and water on the watercolor paper to get used to the whole feel of it, since it's been a while! :XD:

He does look peaceful; you're right. I've been doing a lot more traditional lately, since I'm kind of sick of looking at my laptop all the time. xD

PERHAPS :D I actually haven't thought about the shaman in the long time...by the way, I did determine around 8 months ago that the shaman's real name is Nikolai Kacunga.

Since Yuriy is often associated with winter, I decided to try something else :D By the way, how was your New Years? I think it's already January 2 in your time zone, right?

Yes, since it's past midnight it is (it's 2.30am)!  it was OK! We don't really do much for new years. Might eat a nice meal out tomorrow with my family and Simon though.  I watched the fireworks on the telly yesterday though! What did you do?

Wow, you stay up late! It's only 9:29 and I'm tired as shit already lol. xD Well, it's because I did a lot today. I had a Korean BBQ with some old friends and then one of them crashed at my house and we just talked and looked through old yearbooks, drew a bit, and laughed about some animes/dramas we used to watch. I think we talked nonstop for 5 hours D: And then we went out for hot pot. xD Stuffed to the max now and really tired.

I will need to get back into a more normal schedule at some point! I really like being awake at night. It's also the best time for answering comments, I find. I guess this is my treat for all my hard work on my course.

Sounds great fun! When you eat a lot, you do end up tired XD

What are you doing once this weekend ends? Are you returning to the graphic design job you had?
